The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) protects Service members' reemployment rights when returning from a period of military service. The 2011 QNSE was conducted on a statistically random basis to determine best practices in supporting employers of National Guard and Reserve (NG&R) members and to evaluate the effectiveness of Department of Defense (DoD) and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) programs. The information collected is used for overall program evaluation, management, and improvement. The 2011 QNSE was administered to two distinct populations of businesses in the 50 states and the District of Columbia: 1) businesses that employ or employed NG&R members in their workforce in the last 36 months (NG&R Employers) and 2) businesses without NG&R members in their workforce (Non-NG&R Employers). Topics covered include the following: experiences with NG&R members; potential measures to improve Reserve component-employer relationships; general opinions and attitudes toward NG&R employees; knowledge of Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA); knowledge of employer support programs; general employment policies; and employer characteristics. Results are presented for each question for demographic subgroups of business type and size, employers of NG&R members by Reserve component, industry, and location.
