The 2022 Armed Forces Workplace and Equal Opportunity Survey (2022 WEO) Overview Report contains results from the 2022 WEO conducted from September 26, 2022, and February 3, 2023. The purpose of this report is to explain the statistical and survey methodology employed on the 2022 WEO, to illustrate how estimates of past year racial/ethnic harassment and discrimination rates were constructed, and to provide topline Department of Defense (DoD) findings for both the Active component and the Reserve component.
The Health & Resilience (H&R) Research Division within the Office of People Analytics (OPA) has been conducting the congressionally mandated surveys of racial/ethnic relations of Active and Reserve component members since 1996 as part of a quadrennial (biennial starting 2020) cycle of human relations surveys required by 10 USC § 481. The principal purpose of the 2022 WEO is to report estimated prevalence rates of racial/ethnic harassment and discrimination among military members; to assess professional and personal relationships among members of all racial/ethnic groups; to examine the effectiveness of policies designed to improve professional relationships among all racial/ethnic groups; and to examine the effectiveness of current processes for complaints and investigations into racial/ethnic harassment and discrimination.
