The Optimizing the Defense Sexual Assault Incident Database (DSAID): Usage Trends, Training Needs, and System Improvements survey note examines the 2024 QuickCompass of Sexual Assault Response Personnel (2024 QSAR) data to describe current DSAID usage trends among Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocates (SAPR VAs), and Uniformed Victim Advocates (UVAs, hereafter referred to as SAPR VAs). Focusing specifically on SARCs and SAPR VAs, this analysis leverages both quantitative data from the 2024 QSAR and qualitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding of DSAID usage, training needs, and potential system improvements. The 2024 QSAR was administered from June 24, 2024, through August 20, 2024, to meet the requirements of Title 10 USC Section 4331, which mandates oversight of sexual assault programs and their effectiveness.

SARCs and SAPR VAs reported similar levels of DSAID usage for routine duties in 2024 compared to 2021. However, from 2021 to 2024, they increased their use of DSAID specifically for reporting, victim service referrals, and case management tasks. With respect to DSAID training, SARCs and SAPR VAs recommended enhancing available support resources, using an in-person training format, and adding content focused on case management tasks, legal considerations, and manpower counting. They also suggested several system improvements such as enhancing referral documentation, improving task time-tracking, advancing data analytics and case management features, and integrating DSAID with Military Criminal Investigative Organizations (MCIO) databases. Implementing the suggested improvements could further support the sexual assault response workforce by making DSAID more efficient, user-friendly, and better suited to their operational needs.
